Standard Design Approval(SDA)

The SMART technology validation and SDA project was carried out from 2009 to 2012. During that period, a full set of licensing documents including Standard Safety Analysis Report (SSAR) were submitted to the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) at the end of December 2010. After one and half years of intensive licensing review, the SDA for SMART was officially issued on July 4, 2012 by the NSSC in Korea, in compliance with Article 12 of the Nuclear Safety Act. This is the first license for an integral reactor in the world.

The following technical reports were submitted to the NSSC.

System performance validation

Codes validation

Design methodology validation

The standard designs on the following areas were also submitted to the NSSC.

  • Reactor system design
  • Nuclear fuel design
