[영국 SMR 동향] UK nuclear's future in government hands, say reports (WNN)
최근 영국 상원 과학기술위원회 (Science & Technology Committee)와 사업, 에너지 및 산업전략위원회 (Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy Committee)에서 각각 보고서를 발행했습니다. 보고서 제목을 아래와 같은데 전자는 영국의 원자력 R&D 에 대하여, 후자는 Brexit에 대하여 다루었는데 공히 영국 원자력산업의 미래 경쟁력 확보를 위한 정부의 조치를 요구하고 있습니다.
과학기술위원회 보고서에서는 민간원자력부문의 가능성이 정부의 우유부단함으로 손상을 입고 있다면서 6월 8일 총선을 앞두고 차기 정부가 원자력산업을 위한 미래를 확고히 하는 것이 매우 중요하다고 제언을 하였습니다.
특히 정부의 SMR에 대한 전략 결정의 실패는 민간 원자력부분에서의 정부의 무능함을 보여 주는 본보기라고 지적하면서 정부가 신속한 조치를 취하지 않을 경우 현재의 원자력산업에 대한 최고조의 관심도가 더 이상 유지되지 못할 것이라고 지적하였습니다.
이에 대해 영국원자력산업협회 (Nuclear Industry Association)와 NuScale Power에서도 상기 위원회의 주장에 대해 환영하고 있습니다.
