[이란 SMR 동향] Iran, Hungary agree to collaborate on small reactors (WNN)

2017년 4월 8일 이란 원자력청 (AEOI) 청장과 헝가리 부총리간에 양국간 SMR 설계 협력을 위한 MOU를 체결하였습니다. 보도에 따르면, 이란 원자력청장은 이란 내에서 SMR 사용이 확대될 것으로 기대한다고 하였습니다.

양국은 지금까지 소원했던 경제협력이 2016년 1월 발효된 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)에 힘입어 종전 수준으로 회복하는 것을 목표로 삼고 있습니다. JCPOA는 이란에 대한 경제 제재를 풀어주는 대신 체결한 조약으로 이란과 영국, 독일, 프랑스, 중국, 러시아, 미국이 2015년 7월에 체결하였습니다.

이란 원자력청은 25MW 규모와 100MW 이하 규모의 SMR 설계 및 개발을 헝가리에 제안을 하였는데, 이러한 SMR을 이란 뿐 아니라 아시아, 아프리카에도 수출할 수 있을 것으로 전망하고 있습니다. 즉, 상대적으로 빈곤하고 냉각수가 부족한 국가에서는 SMR이 보다 유용할 것으로 판단하고 있습니다.

현재 이란은 가동중인 Bushehr 원전 1기에 추가하여 2기 이상의 러시아 설계 대형원전 건설을 계획 중입니다. 원자력청장에 따르면 동 사업이 완료되는 약 10년 후 이란에서 SMR을 건설할 것으로 전망하고 있습니다.

Iran, Hungary agree to collaborate on small reactors

Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), and Zsolt Semjén, the Hungarian deputy prime minister, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that includes collaboration between the two countries on designing small nuclear power plants as well as an €85 million ($90 million) investment by Hungarian banks in Iran. Reuters reported that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Mihály Orbán's chief of staff, Janos Lazar, had told a news conference on 6 April the MOU concerned establishment of a small nuclear reactor for scientific-educational purposes. He added that this cooperation had first been agreed during a visit by Orbán to Iran in 2015.
