...... Saudi Arabia will announce within the next year "concrete plans" on siting its first nuclear power plant. The country's energy minister, Khalid Al-Falih, told the Oil and Money conference in London on 19 October: "We will be selecting sites very soon that we will reserve for our first nuclear energy power plant," according to Bloomberg. "We hope within the next 12 months that we will be announcing concrete plans." Although Saudi Arabia's nuclear program is in its infancy, the Kingdom has plans to construct 16 nuclear power reactors over the next 20 years. A 2010 royal decree identified nuclear power as essential to help meet growing energy demand for both electricity generation and water desalination, while reducing reliance on depleting hydrocarbon resources. ......
