[미국 SMR 동향] Terrestrial Energy unveils SMR licensing plans 

Terrestrial Energy USA (캐나다 Terrestrial Energy의 자회사)는 2017년 1월 24일 미국 NRC에 미국 내 SMR 인허가를 위한 계획을 통보했다고 발표하였습니다.

2016년 6월 7일 NRC가 발행한 RIS (Regulatory Issue Summary)에 대한 2017년 1월 18일자 Terrestrial 사의 답변서에서 동 사는 2019년 이전에 설계인가 (DC) 또는 건설허가 (CP)를 NRC에 신청할 계획이라고 언급했습니다.

동 사는 400 MWt 규모의 IMSR (Integral Molten Salt Reactor)을 개발 중인데 2020년대에 시장진입을 목표로 하고 있으며 최초 상용원전을 위한 4개의 부지를 검토 중인데 INL 내 부지와 미시시피강 동편에 위치한 추가 부지를 고려 중입니다.

IMSR은 공장 제작이 가능한 모듈 방식으로 설계되었으며 발전 및 산업용 공정열 (Process Heat) 생산에 사용될 수 있다고 합니다.

작년에 캐나다 Terrestrial Energy Inc.는 CNSC (Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission)에 사전인허가 설계검토 (Pre-licensing design review)를 받을 계획이라고 발표한 바 있습니다.

Terrestrial Energy USA announced today it had informed the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of its plans to license a small modular reactor (SMR) in the USA. Terrestrial said it intends to start "pre-application interactions" with the regulator this year and to make its licensing application in late 2019.
