[MSR 동향] Molten salt reactor experiment begins at Petten (WNN)

Lithium & Thorium Fluoride Salt 혼합물에 대한 조사시험 (Irradiation Test)이 네덜란드 Petten 소재 연구로 HFR에서 2017년 8월 10일부터 진행 중입니다.

용융염로 (MSR)는 Molten Fluoride 또는 Chloride Salt에 녹아 있는 연료를 사용합니다. 즉 MSR Fuel Salt가 액체이기 때문에 연료 및 냉각재의 기능을 동시에 하게 됩니다. 따라서 MSR은 LOCA로 인한 노심용융 (Meltdown)의 위험성이 없다고 합니다.

네덜란드의 Nuclear Research & Consultancy Group (NRG)는 경제성이 후원하는 원자력연구 프로그램의 일환으로 MSR에 대한 연구를 독일 칼스루에 소재 Joint Research Center (JRC)와 협력하여 수행하고 있습니다. JRC는 Lithium & Thorium Fluoride Salt로 구성된 연료를 개발하였습니다. HFR 내에서 조사를 마친 연료 샘플 들은 JRC 연구소에서 조사하게 됩니다. 그 연구의 결과, MSR의 안전한 운전에 필요한 새로운 자료들을 생산할 것입니다.

현재 다수의 다양한 MSR 설계개념이 있으며 그 설계의 상용화 (특히 Thorium과 관련된)를 위한 수많은 흥미 있는 도전들이 시도되고 있습니다.

Irradiation tests on a mixture of lithium and thorium fluoride salts are under way at the High Flux Reactor at Petten in the Netherlands. The results will yield new data on the safe operation of molten salt reactors (MSRs).
